When long time sewing friend Tanit Isis announced she was pregnant, I decided to make her a maternity dress… and this was my practice run for what I had in mind! You can see the final dress on her here – she had to take it in almost everywhere because the bamboo jersey I used for her was so stretchy!
My ITY version is less stretchy and lots of fun to wear.
What is your favourite pattern that used to be trendy and now has disappeared? Mine is the Jorna dress, which is a semi fitted dress that flares out at the waist. I love the asymmetric curve of the hem and how it’s long from the front and back but sassy on the sides!
Next up: PINK!
This is a Seamwork Ariel dress in rayon/linen blend from Fabricland, and I have to say, I’m so impressed with the pattern! Accurate sizing and good fit right away. Look at me enjoying solid colours and a woven!!!!
The only issue I found with this pattern is that the front notched slit as drafted doesn’t give enough ease for me when I move. I hear a rip on my muslin when I bent over to pick something up, and the front slit was suddenly higher! To avoid that issue, I added higher side slits as well. Now it is perfect. I really love the combination of bubble gum pink and tomato red.
Next up is some actual fall sewing! It is that perfect early fall weather right now, when putting on a sweater feels cosy and fun – got to enjoy that short season before it becomes damned cold and annoying. CUE THE COSY SEWING!

I love that one too! I’m trying to get one last wear out of all my favourite summer dresses this month, which means a lot of cold arms and ankles some days!! I’m just not ready to pack them away yet!

Tights and a cute little sweater to top! (That’s my strategy anyway. Well, when I’m not picking clothes based on their stretchiness and pumping-friendliness.😂)

I think You’ve always like more classic patterns! But do you remember the Made by Rae Washi dress? That was everywhere for a while…. Or the By Hand London Anna dress, which EVERYONE made for a few years? Or the Sewaholic Renfrew? Those are the trendy-but-now-rare ones that stand out to me!

Lovely – and really interesting to think about weird hems – I often look at asymmetric knits because I love the weird way they hang! Have to comment on your hexagon tattoo – love it – I don’t usually like tattoos but this obviously has great meaning!! (You’re probably going to tell me you have a needle and thread tattooed somewhere else !!)

They’re all lovely, but that top dress is especially fun! And I’m not sure what I’d pick as a trendy pattern that’s gone away, it takes me so long to get around to new patterns. Case in point, I just recently prepped my first ever pair of Hudson pants. 😂

LOL – I remember talking to good sewing friends about the hudsons like 5 years ago when the style was newer, and they were adamant that style looked terrible on everyone… but now I think it’s such a classic modern sweatpant! I always liked my pair anyway!

I am kind of new to sewing. I’ve seen ITY on line but I don’t know what it stands for???? And I love the top dress–did you make the changes yourself or is that a commercial pattern?

I remember having exactly the same question! interlocking Twist Yarn fabric is a 100% poly knit that is slithery, never wrinkles, and drapes well. You’ll see it a lot in ready to wear once you recognize it!

Isn’t it terrible when a pattern you like isn’t popular anymore but you still wanna make like 6 more of them!?! This happens to me more than I care to admit but I sew them anyway! LOL! I love all of your summer dresses and look forward to your fall makes!

I love that you are keeping Myostosis going with freash ways to sew it, even though it’s big wave of fame is past. A great pattern should last so much longer than a season!!!!
