This is the first fabric I ever bought from Caroline at Blackbird Fabrics, and of course, I liked it so much that I hoarded it for years! Do you do that too? Helen from Helen’s Closet made a beautiful maxi with it, and I very nearly copied her.
Skip forward to May 2018, and I’m about to meet Caroline and Helen in person for the first time, so it seemed fitting to finally use this fabric! I was tempted to make a dress, but in honour of my pledge to dress more boldly, I went for a cropped jumpsuit instead. I loved my first Sallie jumpsuit, so eventually it had to be time to make another!
Sallie was one of the first jumpsuit patterns that I remember from an indie brand, it it seem outlandish then… but however many years later, I’m finally catching up with the trend! I like that the pants are loose but not *too* wide, and this kimono sleeve view makes it appropriate for work.
Unless, of course, you use a heavy fabric, and it pulls your neckline lower! Oh well. Nothing a camisole can’t fix, and if I wasn’t a teacher, I wouldn’t worry about it. The neckline is stabilised with elastic and held in place with a tie. I can wriggle out of it easily with the tie done up, so it’s not fussy to put on or off. (You know what I’m saying, right?)
I made the version with the shoulder ties as a gift recently, and it was very forgiving – between the cropped leg, elastic waist, and adjustable ties, it really could fit a range of sizes and heights! The bodice is quite short though, so for anyone taller than me (5’2″) I’d consider adding length to avoid a wedgie!
I really don’t have much to say about this project, except it’s fun and I love it! I’ll be wearing it this weekend at Pattern Review Weekend in Stratford, Ontario – and next week, I’ll share the Better Pictures Project presentation that I’ll be presenting there! I’ll be done by Friday at noon, and then I can relax and enjoy meeting online friends IRL!
Wish me luck!
Looks great. I just bought this pattern after seeing so many versions during Me Made May. Hoping it will turn out all secret pyjama-like. And thanks for the crucial tip to check out the bodice length and see if I need to shorten!!

May I ask where you bought this pattern?
It is for the jumpsuit.. correct?
Thanks in advance. ❤

Yep, I bought the jumpsuit pattern. It’s called the sallie jumpsuit and maxi dress (it includes both options in the one pattern) and you can buy it from Closet Case Patterns. There’s probably a link in the blog post 🙂

This is fab! Love the fabric – it feels very you, even though you think it’s bold. I have a cropped version of the Sallie and it’s super comfortable and great for summer 🙂
PS agree on the bodice – soooo short. My first attempt was… uncomfortable…

Oh dear! Were you able to fix that first version, or was it unwearable?

I’ve been hoarding fabric from Caoline, too, and should really sew it this year.
