Me-Made May Pledge, 2016!

Yesterday I posted that I’d be repeating one of my past MMM pledges – Did you guess the right one? The answer is…

Colour Palette - Updated

… documenting my personal colour palette in action! 3 years after I first picked these colours, I want to see if they still accurately reflect my wardrobe. I’ve found having a colour palette REALLY helpful while fabric shopping – I almost never shop outside these colours. As as a result, I rarely get wardrobe orphans that don’t go with anything. I *think* these colours are still accurate, but I’m curious to see if that really is true.

Now, truth be told, this palette has already gone through several iterations… which I totally forgot, because it’s this oldest version that is the header for my blog! Ooops!

Just before MMM last time, I swapped out the light pink for fuchsia:

And then after MMM, I decided I should add purple:

To be honest though, I’m not sure I’ve sewn any purple since!

Anyway, the goal this year is to wear whatever I want, day to day, and track which colours actually get worn. I’ll also be looking for colours that aren’t in the palette, but should be! We’ll be moving mid-month, and our apartment is already full of packing boxes – oh, and our landlord is replacing our balcony, too, so that’s adding more chaos! It’s not a good month to be stressing about clothes or trying to wear a dress for a week straight. I’m looking forward to “checking in” with my wardrobe to see where it’s at, and how it’s changed over the years!

Are you joining MMM?

  1. I shall proudly and warmly be wearing brick red every day for my You-Made-Me-May! (And other more drab store-bought hiking colours — though I suppose my chartreuse windshirt isn’t actually drab …)
I’m so impressed with your sewcialist commitments!

    1. Thanks Dad! I’m very very pleased that the fleece jacket turned out to be a success! And I can’t wait to hear all about your trip… online and in person! ❤

    1. Of course! It’s a lovely easy challenge… because you can where whatever you want! Some of my other pledges in the past mean I had to wear a certain pattern even if it’s not quite what I felt like that day… this is hopefully going to be nice and easy!

  2. MMM is always an interesting experiment and tends to throw light on wardrobe realities. I for one was pretty fascinated to find last year that my own color palette made for pretty much endless combinations and that my most worn item were a pair of plain lavender leggings. This year I’ll have to look beyond what I’m accustomed to wearing and dip back into my old handmade clothing as they are a little bigger and less fitted (since I made them before I really knew what I was doing with fit) which is what I need right now after the birth of my daughter. I’ll have to focus more on separates right now too since most of the dresses I’ve made in the last couple years aren’t really nursing-friendly. I guess I’m bringing back the crossover styles that I swore off for a while! 🙂

    1. I love that for you, lavender leggings are a basic! You look great in soft colours, so it makes sense. I wish you luck with the wee baby and figuring out your nursing wardrobe – someone really needs to make more mom-friendly patterns, because almost everyone needs them at some point!

  3. I’ve been going back and forth about whether to “officially” join MMM. I’m swamped with work and dealing with potential work this summer, and I don’t know if I have the energy for it.

On the other hand, I’m in the process of culling my wardrobe and finding holes, so maybe this is a good opportunity to really focus on that.

I love your idea of tracking your colours! I’m looking forward to seeing your results.

    1. You should join! I’ve considered sitting it out in the past, but it’s fun once it all gets rolling. Just pick a nice easy pledge for yourself!!!

  4. This is a great challenge! I joined up too with a low stress pledge too with a focus on tracking what I’m wearing. It will be interesting to see what we both come up with!

  5. Looking forward to seeing all your outfits this month! I wish I could keep to a colour scheme, I feel like I’m all over the place! My goal is the same as last year, wear a different me-made item everyday, and make a new indie pattern up every week – which is nice to make something other than lingerie once and a while!
