It’s that time again: #sewingtop5!
Here’s how it works:
Between now and the new year, post on your blog or IG feed about the following topics, and tag them #sewingtop5:
- Top 5 Hits (favourite or most worn makes)
- Top 5 Misses (projects that didn’t work out or rarely got worn)
- Top 5 Non-Sewing Highights (What did you do this year besides sew? These could be big or small accomplishments – anything from “run a marathon” to “get new glasses”!)
- Top 5 Reflections (Looking back, what can you learn about yourself as a sewist?)
- Top 5 Goals (What would you like to sew in 2016, or what skills/attitudes would you like to learn?)
As a teacher, I think it’s so important to look back, reflect, and take time to be proud of ourselves. As a nosy person, I’m also dying to know which garments became surprise favourites or languished unworn after your initial post!
I started this series back in 2012 when I’d been blogging less than a year – and now about 100 sewists participate each year! These days, the blog world is pretty chock full of themes, challenges, photo hops, and so on, and every year I wonder if the Top 5 is too much on top of everything… but I love reading everyone else’s posts, so I keep it going!
How can I join in?
Easy! Grab the graphic, and start blogging! If you prefer to use IG, please tag everything #sewingtop5 so we can find it. You can start anytime, and keep posting into the new year. I always thing it’s nice at this busy time of year to be able to blog without needing to take any new pictures. Feel free to make it your own: some people like to combine several posts into one, or skip a topic that doesn’t inspire.
Once things get rolling I’ll do a post where you can leave a links to your posts if you are participating – it’s my favourite way to meet new blog-friends!
In the mean time, you might enjoy looking through some posts by last year’s participants, or for a giggle, taking a look at my own Top 5 Hits posts from the last 3 years! 2012, 2013 and 2014. (My favourite part of looking at old posts is noticing who commented – pretty amazing to have 4-year long internet friendships! ❤ )
Are you in? Will you post on your blog or IG this year? I like the permanence of a blog post, personally, but I know the ease of IG is tempting!
PS. I’m going to put the Better Pictures Project on hold this month while I do Top 5s, but I’ll pick it up again in January!
Such a brilliant initiative, my dear, and now a year-end tradition in the sewing community! I love to see the picks of my favorite bloggers – some are surprising. Although I don’t have a blog, I also like to look back to my own sewing year and take a moment for a little analysis.

My goal list has been bugging me recently. I’ll get my excuses in early tho – I’m pregnant and fat so there didn’t seem much point making some things in my list. Will be joining in though as it was a fun exercise to reflect.

Girl, we ALL deserve nice clothes and the fun of sewing! That said if your old goals are fitting your new baby-centric point in life, toss ’em out and set new goals! 🙂

I love these posts and try to read as many as I can fit in. Count me in, although to be honest I might just have five in total. Still there’s always next year (as I said last year). 🙂 Xx

Maybe you could rank this year makes from favourite to least-favourite instead? Make your own rules! 😉

I think I may do this this year to show off all the stuff I made and didn’t blog. Just simple pictures, possibly just pulled off instagram or my phone. Get myself warmed up for Jungle January.

I think I’m going to give this a try! I’ve had a very productive sewing year and I’d like to go back and revisit what I’ve made (and see what I can learn from it).

I think I’m going to join in this year! Some of the things I made are on IG and some are on my blog (I’m terrible at blogging) but it would be great to evaluate my year and look to 2016. Love this!

I’m a little late in finding this, but please sign me up! I think a recap of this past year would be interesting to see and I’ve been thinking about goals for 2016 so this works out perfectly. Thank you!
