I’ve been handing out sewing dares left and right – thanks for joining in the fun! Here are the dares that have been offered/accepted:
- Elena is working on complimenting herself herself out loud or on twitter every time she wears a me-made in MMM, and blogging once a week this month! She’s already working on both!
- Sonja is going to make Carolyn pyjamas…
- …and she’s dared me to make a woven dress! I’ve got some rayon challis washed and ready to go… don’t let me avoid it for too long!
- Jeni is going to sew at least 3 of the 4 fabrics she recently bought at Mood.
- Jennifer Shaw is going to make a maxi dress for a festival…
- Bea has agreed to sew a cardigan AND use some stash fabric!
- Carly has been dared to either sew something inspired by her recent trip to Japan, or use a TNT wintery pattern to make something for summer!
- Tasha has been dared to make shorts.
- Meg has been dared to make more trousers/jeans for MMM.
- Lauren is going to make a quilt to take to uni next year…
- Elizabeth has already started working on her dare to try reverse applique on clothing!
- Charlotte is going to give new life to an old piece of knitting (me-made or thrifted) in the name of sustainability.
- Heather promised to make a jacket of some kind!
- Cari dared Sarah to make something modern inspired by something from her vintage sewing pinboard.
- In return, Cari is going to work towards shorts for summer.
- Meris has started making a pair of Ginger jeans to fill gaps in her MMM wardrobe!
- Stephanie is going to work on either a jumpsuit or a date-night dress for a night out without the baby!
- I must have no mercy, because I dared V to sew a secret pyjama knit dress – right up my alley but something new for her! 🙂
- Michelle will write a post for the Curvy Sewing Collective, and maybe even sew up a pattern from her (fabulous) weekly pattern roundups!
- Rowena is planning to sew the Granville she’s be planning for months, and
maybe even try something with knits!She self-drafted a knit dress and sewed it in merino, and it’s fab! - Andrea dared Kristen has been dared to make Ginger jeans or a cardigan…
- Mother of Reinvention is going to sew a Bianca top to fit in with her Wardrobe Architect plans!
- Jo has already finished her dare to try a Japanese sewing pattern… and then she went and made a second version too! I’m so impressed, and I hope I’ve got her hooked!
- Andrea is going to make wide-legged pants and something by a Canadian designer (but I’m not expecting either until summer holidays hit, because we are both teachers!)
- Sue plans to make something inspired by a childhood outfit or an old favourite item of clothing.
- Kten is going to make a maxi dress for summer, and maybe a Morrix blazer too!
- Rachel has been dared to make something embroidered for her brand new baby, or maybe a pillow case for her older daughter!
- Crafternoon Nap has been dared to make a wrap dress inspired by the DVF exhibit
- Vanessa has been dared to make something from a pattern book…
- Margo already finished her dare to sew for someone in her family (proof on IG) and is going to make something beachworthy!
- Karen is going to make a nice project bag for her knitting.
- Kat has been dared to make 2 tees for MMM…
- Lisa is going to sew up a summer version of her Jade skirt pattern.
- Su has been dared to make more tops for MMM!
- Lou got dared to blog some of her IG pics, and post about her Ginger jeans. (Done!)

This is so awesome. I am happy to report that I put together and traced the pdf pattern I am using for my jacket today, so hopefully I’ll get it cut out and on the go tomorrow!

I think you’ve seen it by now – but I’m going to try the new Waver Jacket by Papercut Patterns, and I’m using some cotton twill I got locally. Fingers crossed!

LOL – you are totally right, and thank you for saying it to my face! 😉 I purposely choose dares that are a little stretch for people and not a huge challenge. The vast majority come from things people mention on their blog that they want to do but haven’t done yet. I think that if someone wants to take on a serious commitment, it should come from themselves – I try not to dare someone to do something where they must spend serious money, buy a certain pattern that they don’t already own, or do something that is a huge investment of time. This is just for fun, as a little challenge that fits alongside their own plans and progression. 🙂 What would you dare yourself to do if you wanted a serious dare?

In keeping with the theme of my dare, I’m leaving the construction of my ‘class project’ until the last minute, LOL. But…just like the salt dough relief maps, the paper mache fish, and the popsicle stick log cabins; I’ve got dreamy, possibly unattainable, plans for greatness mapped out in my head.

I am not participating in this, but I think that these dares are great! We all have aspects of sewing that we have either not tried yet or which simply intimidates us (I am scared of sewing a button up garment with a collar), and this venture provides us a safe, supportive and fun environment for us to expand and stretch ourselves as sewists. Looking forward to seeing everyones finished projects!

Even if only half or a quarter of them get done, there should be some fun projects! I keep going back and forth over what to do about my dare… I’m tempted to size up one of my old woven TNTs and hack it into something, but maybe I should just start fresh and muslin a new pattern? What do you think?

I’m planning on tracing my non-Sewaholic Jalie jeans pattern and printing out and taping my Wearing HIstory trousers patterns by the end of May and muslining (is that a word?) by mid-June so I can take advantage of the lab benches to recut the main fabric before summer break.
Keeping it accountable, right?

So far I’ve made a muslin, decided I didn’t like the pattern I was using, and bought a new pattern. So I’ll definitely need through June.

Have you picked a pattern? That’s whe part I’m stuck on… I know what i want the finished dress to look like, but I can’t decide how to get there! I’ve gained weight sinec I last sewed with wovens, so I’m torn between sizing up my sloper, adjusting a TNT, or starting fresh!

I’ve picked three. That seems to be part of the problem! I cut one and discovered nearly all the way cut that I didn’t have enough fabric for the facings. I’m rather put out about that, but thankfully, I didn’t cut into my precious navy polkadot ITY. I went with a pink floral instead because I was chicken and thought I would do a wearable muslin first. 😀 I’m trying to decide if I want to just leap off and recut in the navy or do a different pattern. I should be able to salvage the pink into a skirt, so it’s not a huge loss.
What are you thinking for the woven? Something Swirly, Twirly and Oh So Girly or something more sedate? Rayon Challis says STaOSG to me. I have McCall’s 6557 hanging out with some lovely black and white Challis, waiting for me to finish this knit dress.

I’m actually planning to doa total knock of of something What Katie Sews would make – I figure that part of the reason I’m not tempted to wear my old woven dresses is that they are all very Colette-retro-ish. I’m hoping that a modern shape will make me want to wear it more!

Oh dear, I wonder if I got her link wrong? I admit I was getting a bit delirious while trying to link everyone to the right blog and the right dare! 😉 A “secret pyjamas” project is just anything that’s as comfy as wearing pjs, but looks like real clothes. Knit dresses, stretchy pants, that kind of thing!

Yesss, we get more time! I forgot I was going home for a week and imagined frantic sewing in my future… I have 1/3 of my dare (mostly – need to tweak the collar) done and am about to cut into the second one! This comes at the perfect time as I’ve realized I have a dire lack of sundresses…

Ooh, that sounds like a lot of fun! I managed to let it slide right by me, since I’m currently still reading the blog posts from the end of April… 😉 May has turned out to be a really busy month for me, hoping it lets up soon. Now I’m wondering if a sewing dare wouldn’t be fun to get me going… then again, my want-to-sew list is about three feet long already. Oh well, maybe next time. 🙂

I’ve managed the first of my dares. sewing a cardigan. Well, kinda sorta… I’ve *refashioned* a sweater dress into a cardigan. But it involved sewing bias tape along the front edges, and sewing a button loop, so that *totally* counts as sewing a cardigan. You’ve already made at least one pattern from your pattern wishlist back in Feb (http://thecollegeseamstress.blogspot.ca/2015/02/pattern-wishlist.html ) – how about choosing another one to make? Or, since you just graduated and maybe it’s not the best time to be spending $ on new patterns, make another version of the Felicity dress, because your green one looks amazing on you!
